Looking for basic home repair and maintenance tips? Tune in to the American Home Shield YouTube channel to hear from licensed contractor and HGTV talent David Leon on a variety of topics related to home repair and maintenance and quick fixes for common household breakdowns.

American Home Shield, a business unit of ServiceMaster and the nation’s leading provider of home warranties, has produced more than 20 home repair and maintenance videos as part of its “Home Matters” series.

The videos feature practical ways for consumers to keep their homes running smoothly and safely, as well as save money on energy costs and repair services. In about a minute or less, viewers can learn helpful tips such as:

  • How to easily fix bent fins on an air conditioning unit
  • How ice cubes can help prolong the life of your garbage disposal
  • How a dollar bill can help you know if a refrigerator is putting your food at risk of dangerous temperatures
  • Why it’s important to leave a warning message on the circuit when working on or with your electrical system

“There are lots of resources available online for do-it-yourselfers, but we believe our 40 years of experience gives us a unique perspective on what can be most helpful to homeowners,” said Mark Barry, president of American Home Shield. “In just the past five years, our contractors have made more than 14 million visits to our customers’ homes, diagnosing, repairing and replacing covered systems and appliances. These videos capture many of the questions and maintenance issues that our contractors and service team encounter on a regular basis.”

The Home Matters video series has been extremely popular, logging nearly 100,000 views in just a matter of months.

In addition to maintenance and safety tips, visitors to www.YouTube.com/TheAHSTeam can also find out more about American Home Shield’s home warranty plans, preventative maintenance services, and its free contractor-finder program.
