American Home Shield donates $5000 to Habitat for Humanity to help Oklahoma tornado victims

December 20, 2013 6:00 PM EST

Homeowners and others from around the country helped in the effort to provide much-needed aid to tornado victims in central Oklahoma by taking part in an online sweepstakes offered by American Home Shield, the nation’s largest provider of home warranties.

As part of the company’s You Pick Two Sweepstakes, American Home Shield committed to donate $1 for each Facebook “like” (up to $5,000) to the Central Oklahoma Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. As a result of the overwhelming response, that limit has been reached and on Dec. 17, American Home Shield presented a check for $5,000 to Ann Felton Gilliland, CEO of Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity. The donation will directly support construction efforts for homes devastated by the May 2013 tornadoes.

Company officials said while they are excited to help homeowners upgrade their homes with new appliances through the sweepstakes, they are especially encouraged by the response from the online community to help rebuild the hard-hit neighborhoods and homes in and around Moore, Okla.

“So many people in central Oklahoma suffered a tremendous amount of loss, but they’ve shown incredible resilience and focus,” said Mark Barry, president of American Home Shield. “Adding a donation to this sweepstakes was a simple way to help others demonstrate their support for a community that is still feeling the effects of that terrible storm.”

While the donation limit was met far ahead of schedule, the You Pick Two Sweepstakes is still running with an entry deadline of Dec. 31, 2013. For more information, visit
